Trama

Data Stellare 49301.2: Quinn, un Q ribelle, riesce a fuggire dall'interno di una cometa in cui era stato recluso e chiede asilo alla Voyager. Poco dopo il ben noto Q si presenta per riportare il ribelle nel continuum, però Quinn dichiara che, se Janeway gli garantisce l'asilo, intende suicidarsi per porre fine al tedio della sua vita immortale.

In questo episodio...

Si viene a sapere che Quinn ha influito sulla storia in varie occasioni:
- ha urtato l'albero facendo cadere la mela che ha ispirato Isaac Newton;
- ha dato un passaggio con una jeep e fatto arrivare in tempo Maury Ginsberg al concerto di Woodstock, che è riuscito a risolvere un problema che avrebbe impedito lo svolgimento dell'evento;
- ha salvato un avo di William Riker permettendo a quest'ultimo di esistere.
Si viene a sapere da Q che gli Umani non avrebbero dovuto arrivare nel quadrante Delta prima di un centinaio d'anni [T:06:51].
La Voyager assiste alla formazione dell'universo [T:08:17].
Q sposta per pochi secondi la Voyager nelle vicinanze della Terra [T:28:27].

In origine, il nome del personaggio interpretato da Maury Ginsberg era diverso, ma, una volta che l'attore è stato scelto, a tutti piaceva il nome dell'attore così tanto che è rimasto tale anche nella storia.

I'm ready to die; How about you?
For many years as I have put my thoughts to paper and written this column, it has occurred to me that I would run out of things to say, find nothing new to comment about. But I have. And it's deeply troubling to me. Frankly, I believe the time has come for the continuum to look at the possibility that immortality is not in this society's best interest. I have found myself recently looking at my life and saying, «I've had enough. Why not call it quits?» And you know what? I've decided that's exactly what I want to do. Let's take a good hard look at our life. Each of us should ask himself «Have I had enough?» The answer is yes.

È strano che la tecnologia federale del teletrasporto riesca così facilmente a liberare dalla sua prigione un essere dei poteri di un Q, che richiede certo dei sistemi non elementari per essere confinato in uno spazio così ristretto contro la sua volontà.
