Data Stellare 3842.3: L'Enterprise sta trasportando 114 delegati della Federazione su Babel per un congresso; tra i passeggeri ci sono i genitori di Spock, Sarek e Amanda. A bordo viene ucciso l'ambasciatore Gav e Sarek è il principale indiziato del delitto. Tutto si complica ulteriormente quando l'Enterprise viene attaccata da una nave sconosciuta.
- Si vedono per la prima volta gli Andoriani.
- Si vedono per la prima volta i genitori di Spock.
- Benché non impossibile, è comunque strano che un chirurgo come McCoy non abbia la destrezza manuale per fare il saluto vulcaniano.
