- Vediamo che sull'Enterprise viene ricreato l'alternarsi del giorno e della notte modificando l'intensità dell'illuminazione.
- Viene recitato l'Amleto a bordo dell'Enterprise.
- La canzone che canta Uhura si chiama Beyond Antares (musica di Wilbur Hatch, testi di Gene L. Coon) ed è cantata dalla stessa Nichelle Nichols.
- Buona parte di questo episodio è basato sulle opere di Shakespeare; la stessa trama è molto ispirata ad Amleto (Amleto > Kirk, Claudio > Anton Karidian, Ofelia > Lenore Karidian e il fantasma del padre di Amleto > Thomas Leighton).
- Quando Martha copre il cadavere di Thomas Leighton si vede che muove la bocca per parlare, ma non si sente alcuna battuta.
- Il titolo stesso deriva da un brano dell'Amleto (II 2 591-607) di William Shakespeare:
