Trama

Data Stellare 42779.1: L'Enterprise è diretta verso il settore Epsilon 9 per l'osservazione astronomica di un nuovo ammasso di pulsar. Nel frattempo Wesley Crusher si dirige verso la base stellare 515 per essere sottoposto ai test d'ammissione della Flotta Stellare, ma non viaggerà da solo: Picard andrà con lui per sottoporsi ad un delicato intervento lontano da occhi indiscreti. Mentre il Capitano e Wesley sono nello shuttle in rotta verso la base, l'Enterprise è costretta ad allontanarsi per rispondere ad una chiamata di soccorso.

Quando Geordi si riprende dal primo colpo di phaser sparato dai Pakled, nello script era prevista una scena in cui era sprovvisto del VISOR:

        is hit by yet another phaser stun, slams back into a
        bulkhead and then struggles to his feet, shaking off
        his phaser's stun effects:

        Geordi reaches out, groping for his VISOR:

                                        GEORDI
                        My VISOR...

        Reginod picks it up, studies it:

                                        REGINOD
                        This does something.

        Geordi reacts, realizes the Pakled has the VISOR now:

                                        GEORDI
                        Yes. It allows me to see.

        Reginod and Grebnedlog react curiously. They wave
        their digits in front of Geordi's face. He doesn't
        react, reaching out for the VISOR as they keep it away
        from him:

                                        GEORDI
                        Where is it? Give it to me--

                                        GREBNEDLOG
                        Can you make us go now?

        Geordi lunges for him, stumbling. Reginod realizes:

                                        REGINOD
                        He cannot make us go.

                                        GREBNEDLOG
                        He is not smart.
                                (re: the VISOR)
                        This is smart.

        He hands the VISOR back to Geordi, and he clicks it
        back into place.

A circa [T:26:10] era prevista un'ulteriore battuta di Picard al termine della scena tra il Capitano e Wesley sul Sakharov. La parte in grigio è presente nell'episodio:

                        What was that red blast?

                                        RIKER
                        Hydrogen exhaust through the
                        Bussard collectors. Harmless,
                        but a nice light show. 

                                        GEORDI
                        Very impressive.

                        Did you disable their photons?

                                        GEORDI
                        Just in time. That's why you're
                        all standing here...
