Trama

Aprile 2152: L'Enterprise incappa in un campo minato romulano e, dopo che una mina ha danneggiato gravemente una parte dello scafo, un'altra rimane ancorata allo stesso. Reed esce sullo scafo per tentare di disarmarla ma rimane intrappolato.

• Avviene il primo contatto radio con i Romulani.
• Si sente il linguaggio romulano.
• Debutta John Shiban come coproduttore esecutivo.
• Sappiamo che l'Inghilterra è nelle finali della coppa del mondo di calcio.
• Ci sono 83 persone a bordo dell'Enterprise.

Note

• Vediamo che il tessuto di una tuta EVA forata tende a richiudersi sul foro e a bloccare la depressurizzazione, mentre questo non succede con la tuta di Worf in First Contact. Questa tecnologia non è fantascientifica: le agenzie spaziali stanno già pensando di utilizzare un sistema simile per le piccole falle sulla Stazione Spaziale Internazionale.

YATI

• Quando l'Enterprise esce dal campo minato, Travis, pur vedendo le mine, fa fatica a muovere la nave negli spazi vuoti: la manovra richiede concentrazione e molto tempo. In questa manovra vediamo numerose mine sfilare davanti all'Enterprise: è impossibile che, durante l'entrata in orbita, la nave le abbia schivate tutte solo per caso.

Versione italiana

• Reed dice che il danno all'Enterprise si trova a sinistra a poppavia, ma, in realtà, si vede bene che la frattura sullo scafo si trova a prua e in originale la dizione è corretta: «On the outer hull, port-forward quarter» («port» è la parte sinistra della nave).
• Quando la mina si aggancia allo scafo in originale viene detto «Starboard side... upper aft quadrant» («starboard» è destra e «aft» è poppa), ma in italiano è stato tradotto «a proravia» (prora è la parte anteriore in linguaggio militare).
