Trama

Metà di maggio 2151: L'Enterprise inizia a manifestare molte avarie la cui causa è una nave xyrilliana che si nasconde dietro la nave per ricaricare le proprie scorte di energia. Quando Charles Tucker si reca a bordo della nave xyrilliana per aiutare gli alieni a riparare i loro danni, familiarizza con il responsabile tecnico, una donna, ma si trova inaspettatamente incinto senza aver consapevolmente intrecciato un rapporto sessuale.

In questo episodio...

• Avviene il primo contatto tra Umani e Xyrilliani.
• Ci si imbatte per la prima volta in una specie aliena che utilizza la tecnologia olografica per le simulazioni ambientali.
• Archer dice di conoscere Tucker da otto anni.
• Si verifica per la prima volta la gravidanza di un maschio umano.
• Archer fa la doccia con un getto d'acqua; evidentemente la doccia sonica non è ancora stata inventata o introdotta sulle astronavi.

• Archer ha salvato la vita a Tucker quattro anni prima, quindi nel 2147.

Blooper

• Nel teaser, nonostante l'acqua sparsa nella doccia subisca l'effetto della microgravità, il getto d'acqua continua a uscire come se la gravità artificiale persistesse.
• Alla fine della decompressione, sul portello che si apre alle spalle di Trip si vedono chiaramente delle venature come se fosse un pannello di legno con uno strato di vernice troppo sottile.

YATI

• Phlox dice che il feto non è tecnicamente figlio di Charles in quanto gli Xyrilliani si riproducono prendendo solo il materiale genetico della madre. Se fosse veramente così, tutti i figli sarebbero femmine cloni delle madri, senza il vantaggio della ricombinazione genetica della riproduzione sessuata.

• Una consolle della nave xyrilliana verrà riutilizzata in Fusion come consolle della navetta vulcaniana.

Tucker: I'm telling you, Cap'n, I was a complete gentleman the entire time!
Archer: I imagine that's a question of how you define gentlemen.

T'Pol: This engineer wanted you to see her planet.
Tucker: So?
T'Pol: Perhaps the next step would have been to meet her holographic parents.

Tucker: I'm a Chief Engineer! I've spent years earning that position! I never had any intention of becoming a working mother!

Mayweather: Why are they attacking us?!
T'Pol: They're not. If they wanted to destroy the Enterprise, they would have done it.
Archer: So I guess that's their version of a... warning shot across our bow.
Reed: I don't recommend being the recipient of another warning like that, Sir!

Archer: How has is it been but the Klingon chancellor call me a brother? Is that true?
T'Pol: Klingons are known to exagerate. I saw not that I did wrong doing the same.

T'Pol: I have run a check through the Starfleet database. You might be pleased to know that this is the first recorded incident of a Human male becoming pregnant.
