Tenente della Flotta Stellare assegnato all'Enterprise su cui svolge la mansione di navigatore. Arex appartiene a una specie tripodale, munita di tre arti superiori e di tre arti inferiori. Sale a bordo dell'Enterprise nel 2269, assieme al Tenente M'Ress, in sostituzione del Guardiamarina Chekov. In data stellare 5275.6 Arex, assieme a tutto il resto dell'equipaggio dell'Enterprise, viene contagiato da un virus dramiano che lo porta in punto di morte. McCoy, fortunatamente, riesce a trovare la cura per salvare Arex (Albatross).
